Little Sparrows Nursery is looking for a qualified Early years practitioner to start at their Esher based nursery from January 2024.

Hours of work: 9am – 3pm daily
(up to 30 hrs per week - Term time only)

Salary: negotiable (depending on experience)

We are also looking for practitioners who are interested in being bank staff on variable hours. If you have experience of working within Early years or other childcare role and have a passion for supporting children to be creative, grow in confidence and develop a sense of curiosity through high-quality play and learning opportunities then come and join our friendly team at Little Sparrows Nursery.


Main duties

  • Motivate and stimulate a child’s learning abilities through hands on support and appropriate intervention.

  • Help children develop curiosity and desire to learn

  • Work with other team members to plan and coordinate activities both indoors and outdoors

  • Share knowledge gained with other practitioners and build and maintain relationships with parents

  • Observe, assess and record each child’s progress

  • Keep up to date with changes in the curriculum and developments in best practice.

  • To be flexible in hours and duties in order to meet the needs and requirements of the nursery.

  • Follow all the Nursery’s policies and procedures

  • Safeguard children at all times and have a strong understanding of safeguarding and health and safety.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Applicants must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders which have been made against them.

At Esher nursery safeguarding is paramount. This post requires a DBS check as there may be periods of unsupervised access to children. An Enhanced DBS and satisfactory references would be obtained prior to commencement of employment.

Job details

Person specification & Criteria

  • NVQ Level 3 Early Years qualification preferable

  • Experience of working in an Early Years setting or a childcare environment

  • Have an interest in outdoor learning/ forest school

Additional responsibilities

  • To plan for the EYFS curriculum – to include assisting with the preparation of material for each session as required.

  • To help set up the Nursery for the daily programme and to help tidy away at the end of the session.

  • To ensure Nursery policies, procedures and operational practices are adhered to at all times.

  • To advise the Nursery Manager of any concerns regarding children, parents, or the safety of the equipment, maintaining confidentiality as necessary.

  • To motivate and engage the children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation.

  • To comply at all times with Nursery policies and procedures, including health and safety, hygiene, inclusion and confidentiality.

  • To attend staff meetings and events as necessary.

  • To keep confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is learned as part of the job.

  • To work as part of a team and to assist other members of that team as possible and required.
